Bilston Outdoor Market

Umberslade’s groundworks team is leading the sustainable transformation of Bilston Outdoor Market, a key construction project within the £5.2 million regeneration scheme. By prioritising on-site and off-site recycling, the team efficiently repurposes materials to minimise waste and environmental impact. Old concrete is broken down, crushed, and reused in the site’s new foundations, while recovered metals are carefully extracted and recycled off-site. On-site processing reduces transport needs, lowering emissions and project costs.

Driven our their “Snag Zero” philosophy, the team ensures precision and zero defects at every stage, aiming to eliminate "knock-on" delays and keep the project on schedule. This approach was put to the test when they uncovered an uncharted Victorian sewer. With careful drainage and investigation, the team avoided disruptions, demonstrating their problem-solving expertise.

Umberslade’s sustainable groundwork sets the stage for the project’s next phases, including new retail units, improved pedestrian access, and updated market facilities as part of the Bilston Health & Regeneration Programme. With sustainability and efficiency at its core, this project exemplifies progress built to last.
